How to Grow Eyebrows Naturally If You Have Thin Hair

grow_eyebrows_naturallyIf you have thin eyebrows, you know the struggle of having to fill them in with an eyebrow pencil. And no matter how many times you do it, you can never get it to look the way it did the time before. It’s so obvious that you’re “drawing on your eyebrows”, but what else can you do?

Before you consider getting eyebrows permanently tattooed onto your face (ouch!), consider these tips to grow eyebrows naturally.

Why Your Eyebrows Are So Thin

Thin eyebrows can be caused by excessive grooming. In other words, plucking or waxing your eyebrows too often in an attempt to get that flawless ‘Hollywood beauty’ look.

Problems with eyebrow growth can also be the result of nutritional deficiencies, aging, and medical conditions such as autoimmune disease and alopecia areata.

Moreover, if you have ever received radiation or chemotherapy, your eyebrows may be much thinner than they should be.

Supplements

1. Vitamin B5

Vitamin B5 is abundant in whole foods like vegetables, eggs, grains, meat, and dairy products. However, if your diet consists mostly of junk food, or if you have a gastrointestinal disorder that prevents proper nutrient absorption, you could have a vitamin B5 deficiency.

The recommended daily dose for healthy hair, eyelashes, and eyebrows is four to seven milligrams of vitamin B5 a day.

2. Biotin

Biotin has long been used as a natural treatment for hair loss in children and adults. This nutrient stimulates cell growth and helps thicken hair naturally. The recommended daily dose is 30 to 100 milligrams.

Natural Remedies

1. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is rich in vitamin E, vitamin K, and iron, three nutrients that support thick and healthy eyebrows. The fatty acids in coconut oil bind to the protein in your brow hair, protecting the roots and stimulating hair growth. For best results, put a few drops of warm coconut oil on your fingertips and massage it into your brows. This will help boost blood circulation while moisturizing the area. Leave it on overnight. The next morning, wash your face as usual. Do this once a day for one to two months.

2. Onion Juice

Onion juice is a natural source of sulfur, which helps improve collagen production needed for proper hair growth. Moreover, this home remedy strengthens your hair follicles, which can help prevent further hair loss.

A study published in the Journal of Rheumatology revealed that 86.9 percent of participants struggling with alopecia areata experienced hair regrowth after six weeks of using a crude onion juice treatment.

To apply this remedy at home, grind one small onion to extract the juice. Massage the juice into your eyebrows for five minutes. Allow the juice to dry on its own and then wash it off with a mild cleanser. Use this treatment once a day for several weeks, and you should notice results.

3. Egg Yolk

Your eyebrow hair is made up of keratin protein, and since egg yolk is rich in protein, it makes an ideal natural treatment to regrow thin eyebrows. This remedy is easy to use. Simply break one egg into a bowl and separate the yolk from the white. Beat the yolk until it is thick and creamy. Apply the yolk to your eyebrows with a cotton swab. Leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes and then rinse it off with cold water. You need only use this treatment once or twice a week to see results.

4. Castor Oil

Castor oil, derived from the castor bean, is one of the most effective natural treatments to regrow thin eyebrows. This oil contains protein, vitamins, fatty acids, and antioxidants that nourish hair follicles, promoting new hair growth.

In addition, this oil is rich in ricinoleic acid, a potent antibacterial and antifungal agent that prevents infection from interfering with normal hair growth.

Regular castor oil massages on the roots of your brows will help thicken hair and generate new hair growth.

To get the most benefit from this treatment, soak a cotton swab in pure castor oil and apply it to each eyebrow. Massage the area gently with your fingertips for two to three minutes. Leave the remainder on for at least 30 minutes or overnight. Wash your face as usual. Repeat once a day for two to three weeks until you notice an improvement.

You can buy castor oil at your nearest grocery store or at an online site such as amazon

Note: Stop using castor oil if you experience irritation or burning. If you are pregnant, consult your physician before using this method as castor oil has been known to induce labor.

5. Avocado and Vitamin E Mask

Another way to thicken your eyebrows naturally is to use a homemade avocado and vitamin E mask. Slice up a ripe avocado, and put about a tablespoon in a container. Break open a vitamin E capsule (400 international units or higher), and mix the two ingredients together until smooth. Apply a generous amount of the mask, and leave it on for 15 to 30 minutes. Do this two to three days per week.

6. Aloe Vera

Aloe vera contains enzymes that nourish hair follicles and help grow thicker eyebrows naturally. This plant extract is also an excellent moisturizer and skin softener.

For best results, use the gel directly from the leaf of an aloe plant. You can open the leaf with a pair or scissors, a knife, or a sharp fingernail. Once you’ve extracted the gel, gently massage it into your eyebrows and allow it to remain for 30 minutes. Then, rinse it off with lukewarm water.

Use this remedy once a day for several weeks.

Avoid Damaging the Eyebrows You Have

No matter the cause of your thinning eyebrows, there are a few things you can do to avoid damaging what little hair you have left.

For example:

  • Let Them Grow

If your eyebrows are very sparse, let them grow out for a year without doing anything to them. This will give your beauty specialist enough hair to work with to help you achieve that enviable shape.

  • Exfoliate

Regular exfoliation of your brow area can help promote healthy blood flow and stimulate growth. For best results, use a soft toothbrush to exfoliate your eyebrows a couple of times a week.

  • Use a Razor

“Don’t shave it, it will grow back thicker!” Remember that warning about using a razor on unwanted facial hair? Well, you can use this technique to your advantage when you’re trying to grow out your eyebrows. Use a brow razor on the areas where hair is especially sparse to stimulate an even growth pattern.

  • Groom the Right Way

If you have thin eyebrows, the last thing you want to do is pluck or wax them. Plucking can be very irritating to the skin, worsening hair growth problems, and waxing can rip out too much hair at once, leaving your eyebrow area naked for months at a time. (Yikes!)

Your best bet for grooming thin eyebrows and keeping them even and attractive is eyebrow threading. With threading, there’s no need to worry about accidentally plucking out the wrong hair or waxing yourself bald. Just sit back, relax, and let a trained professional shape your eyebrows to perfection for less than the cost of a jar of wax.

Having thin eyebrows can be frustrating and embarrassing, but you don’t have to live with it. These natural tips will help you grow eyebrows that will turn heads and have your friends asking, “What’s your secret?”
