Triphala is an integral part of Ayurveda. Triphala is an Ayurvedic polyherbal tea or powder made up of three Indian fruits: Amalaki, Haritaki, and Bibhitaki. Today, both Ayurveda and Tibetan medicine offer Triphala for a wide range of assorted conditions. 

It is considered a healthy elixir that balances and purifies the human body. Due to its widespread uses, there have been many different studies on the benefits of this herb.

This article looks at ten scientifically backed benefits of taking Triphala.

1. Promotes Stress Resilience

Triphala helps to promote stress resilience by regulating 5 HT and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) receptors. Triphala can also fight off depression and the brain fog associated with stress.  

Stress affects our BDNF levels and can make us more vulnerable to developing stress-related mental conditions. By helping to regulate it, Triphala can make us more resilient to stress and possibly even reduce our chances of developing mental conditions. 

Triphala also contains Luteolin and Quercetin, which are two flavonoids that have been found to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression.

Another great benefit to taking Triphala is that it has been shown to reduce some forms of cancer. This is due to the antimutagenic activities of the herbal remedy. 

According to a study on breast cancer and prostate cancer cells, Triphala slowed down the growth of the cancer cells. This study shows that the gallic acid in the fruits was the leading cause of the suppression of the cancer cells.

6. Can Help with Weight Loss Goals

Triphala can help you lose weight. A 12-week study tested obese individuals with Triphala intake and weight loss. The Triphala group had significantly greater weight loss than the placebo group. 

It helps to keep the digestion tract clear, which also helps to keep water weight down. Triphala may be a potential choice if you’re looking to lose a little bit of weight.

7. Good For Your Skin

Triphala is beneficial for your skin because it is full of healthy antioxidants. The antioxidants can stop the oxidative stress that leads to age spots, wrinkles, and acne and reduce the appearance of scars.

You can find Triphala in some skin care creams, and with Vitamin C and it’s anti-inflammatory properties, you can keep your skin radiant and reduce redness.

But you can always drink Triphala tea or take a supplement to receive the same benefits. 

8. Can Lower your Cholesterol

Another great benefit of taking the herb Triphala is that it can help to lower your cholesterol. A review of several studies shows that the groups who took Triphala had a much greater reduction in their lipid profile, total cholesterol, and triglycerides

Blood glucose levels were also noted, which could potentially be beneficial in managing diabetes.

9. Can Improve Your Eyesight

Triphala may improve your eyesight and has been shown to prevent cataracts and glaucoma. You can also use the dried fruit powder to make an effective eye wash. 

A study used Triphala as a preventative for cataracts in mice. The researchers induced cataracts by using selenite. The Triphala greatly restored the glutathione levels in the eye lenses. Only 20% of the mice given the pre-treatment of Triphala developed cataracts, whereas 100% of the control group did. 

10. Can Help Detoxify the Body 

One of Triphala’s main mechanisms is to purify the body. It purifies the bloodstream as well as the digestive tract. So, by doing so, it helps in detoxing heavy metals and other metabolic waste products. 

Triphala Can be a Great Addition to Your Emergency Health Kit 

As you can see, there are many great benefits to trying the powerful Ayurvedic herb Triphala. While you may not experience all of these benefits of taking Triphala, you could possibly benefit from one of two. 

Triphala is an excellent addition to any prepper’s emergency health kit, and depending on your climate, any of the three fruits that make up its composition would be an excellent addition to a healthy herb and fruit garden.
