Arthritis is common in aging people. Free radicals cause damage to the body tissues and cartilage and cause inflammation of the joints. Dietary intake of anti-oxidants can fight back the ill effects of free radicals and treat arthritis.

Fresh fruits and vegetables are rich in anti-oxidants. Everyday 5-6 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables is recommended.

Fruits such as oranges, apples, papaya and grapes are good to help in preventing cartilage breakdown as well as to stimulate components necessary to manufacture cartilage tissues.

Drink Juices and Be Hydrated:

Hot Compress:

For quick relief of pain, giving hot compress to the affected area with the help of electric blanket, hot water bag, heating pads, etc. can be effective. Apply hot compress for around 15-20 minutes. Even a hot water bath or soaking in hot water can help relieve joint pain.

Massage:

Many people have experienced the fruitful effects of massage in arthritis that they can even swear by it. Massage alleviates the symptoms associated with arthritis inflammation and facilitate blood circulation. Thus, massaging can improve the mobility of joints, increase the flexibility and relieve the soreness and stiffness of the joints.

Using warm mustard oil, or eucalyptus oil can be beneficial to relieve the inflammation and pain, as these oils are known for their pain relieving qualities. After massaging the joints, do not expose them to the cold air out by keeping it wrapped in a warm cloth.

Glucosamine Sulphate:

Glucosamine sulphate is a naturally occurring chemical compound produced in healthy joints. This chemical is used by the body to repair cartilage damage and keep it healthy. Thus, supplementing glucosamine sulphate in arthritis can help boost the cartilage health and reduce the arthritic pain in mild to moderate cases.
